The Hunter's Moon
By: O.R. Meiling
Description:
Two cousins go on a wild trip around Ireland, trying to find a passage into the Faerie world. Upon sleeping in a faerie mound, one cousin, Finnavair is taken by the faeries, leaving Gwen behind. Gwen goes searching for her cousin, only upon finding her, Finnavair and the faerie king have fallen in love and wish to be married. Finnavair refuses to leave the fairy world. The two cousins find out about the monster, The Hunter, that plagues the world of Faerie. Apparently, every seven years, the Hunter demands the sacrifice of a faerie or human or it will eat the world of Faerie. The faeries have a custom of feeding it the the mortal who enters their realm during the seventh year, which happened to be Finnavair. The faerie king refuses to sacrifice her (isn't that romantic?) which creates a teeny little problem. So, I won't spoil the ending, but let me tell you, its a must-read!

Song of the Lioness Quartet
By: Tamora Pierce
A medieval, girl-power kind of story. With knights, handsome princes, theives, romance, danger, girls kicking ass, and magic this is an amazing story. Alanna of Trebond wants to be a knight, and her twin brother (how convient) does not. Only problem- she's a girl. So she cuts her hair and goes to the palace in her brother's place pretending to be a boy. The Quartet follows 4 years of page training, 4 years of being a squire and then two books of her exciting carrer as an outcasted lady knight. This is an amazing story and I would recommend anything by this author in an instant so check it out!

The Lord of the Rings
By: J.R. Tolkien
I have to admit, it took me a whole year to get through these three books. It was heavy reading but overall its an amazing book. I think you all know the story- Bilbo finds ring, Bilbo gives ring to Frodo. Frodo, with friends, must destroy ring in Mt. Doom so big-bad Sauron can't use it to take over the world. Okay, its a hell of a lot more complicated than that but that's the gist.

Shizuko's Daughter
By:Kyoko Mori
This book is so sad and beautifully told. The imagery is unbeatable. You instantly become sympathetic to an otherwise despiseable character.
Yuki Okuda knows her mother would be proud of her grades and her achievements in sports if she were alive. But she committed suicide. And Yuki has to learn how to live with a father who doesnt seem to love her and a stepmother who treats her badly. Most important, she has to learn how to live with herself: a twelve-year-old Japanese girl growing up alone, trying to make sense of a tragedy that makes no sense at all....
