These four books are about an orphaned, teenaged girl, Veralidaine (Daine) Sarrasri who has "a way with animals." Daine meets and works for Onua, looking after her horses. It's through Onua that Daine meets the only lady knight, Alanna, and Numair Salmalin, a very powerful and charismatic mage. Numair tells Daine that she has wild magic, which enables her to talk to animals telepatheically, sense immortals presence, change into animals, and to heal animals even when they are dead sometimes. Numair becomes Daine's teacher in the use of her wild magic and over time they fall in love. Together they serve King Jonathan, fighting the Immortal creatures which their enimes have released upon them from the Divine Realms. This is also a very good book, a definite must read.
